Banská Bystrica is a city in central Slovakia, situated on the Hron River in a broad valley surrounded by the Low Tatras, Veľká Fatra, and Kremnica Mountains. It is the sixth-largest city in Slovakia and serves as the economic, administrative, and cultural center of central Slovakia, as well as the seat of the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region.
